Young Golf Leaders

Molly Stevenson

Hi, I’m Molly and I’ve been playing golf since I joined GL Golf Academy in 2014. I have played at in-club tournaments (like the Luke Reid competitions), I have represented Warley Woods Golf Club in competitions (including the Golf Sixes league), and I have volunteered at several golf events at Warley Woods. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to be selected to be an ambassador for a
programme called Girls Golf Rocks. I was an ambassador this programme, where I led sessions that were designed to get more girls interested in golf. From doing this role, I have developed leadership skills and I have learnt how to coach new golfers. I massively enjoyed being an ambassador for this programme because golf is a sport anyone can play, not just a sport for men
and older people, and running the coaching sessions for young girls broke this stereotype. I’m looking forward to making more golfing memories and improving my golf in the future.

Ava Simmons

Hi, I’m Ava and I started playing golf in 2015 when I was 9, after attending a GL Golf Academy summer camp. Since then I have taken part in a number of competitions, volunteered at various golf events and play weekly at the Junior Academy.

In 2019, I became a Girls Golf Rocks ambassador. Girls Golf Rocks is a nationwide programme that was set up by England Golf and the Golf Foundation that aims to get more girls playing golf. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to take part in this programme; which involved a training course and 6 weeks of teaching local girls the basic foundations of golf. This allowed me to develop leadership skills and meet new people. I was very passionate about this as I think golf holds a stereotype for being a sport for older people; especially men, however this is not the case.

I have also represented Warley Woods Golf Club by playing competitions, such as the Golf Sixes League, as well as winning the Luke Reid “Girls Category” and “Most Improved” player.

I’m looking forward to what the future holds for my golfing journey and making many more golfing memories in the years to come.
